Greetings everyone!
I bring you a medical update with no time for a picture since I am trying to get the facts to the printer before the deadline! It's tough being the public relations director for your child!
Ellie had a check up today in town that fell in between heart surgery and an appt. scheduled in May in Atlanta. We've used this local cardiologist for everything from fetal ultrasounds to critical appointments resulting in hospital admissions including an ambulance ride (he wanted us to go by helicopter but ground was faster).
Anyway, lately we've thought she looked great and she's acting great so we were hopeful. Her new thing is a little cough that we think is allergies. The poor girl will be playing and looking around and then have this little cute cough that is innocent enough. But if it gets out of hand, the next thing you know, up comes breakfast. We're playing with volume a bit - always tweaking that.
So the wonderful news is - she looks really great! Her echocardiogram showed still very good pressures in her heart and lungs. She still has that little leak that may resolve over time, but for all that she's been through she really is coming around. He was not comfortable changing any medicines - he said he wanted Atlanta to drive that boat. I guess another month of all those drugs won't hurt the girl. She already has the liver of a 97 year old woman.
On the way home I saw two signs that made me laugh - that would have been the picture to take.
One was a church. It said:
"Jesus, I won't complain."
Then the next was a weight loss clinic. It said:
"Is food your medicine?"
I like the second one for Ellie - yes, breastmilk is keeping her healthy and strong!
And here's the most amazing news. The nurse that was giving me the discharge paperwork delivered the Top Story Headline that truly made my jaw drop. Over this past year I have heard nothing but "Come back in two weeks", "When are you going to Atlanta? Oh that's too long to wait, come back before then" and "Let me see her again next week". So I had whispered to her to remind him we go to Atlanta May 21st hoping he would be o.k. with not seeing us before then. She came back and said "He wants to see you in 6 months". Here is where Jeff would say: "Whu-Whu-Whaaaaattttt?????!!!!" We'll see what Atlanta says about that in May but I just wanted to celebrate feeling not entirely stressed out after leaving a doctor's office for once!
And Jesus, I will NOT complain about that!!!!!!!!!!!
